AUVSI, Other Organizations Urge FAA to Publish Section 2209 Rulemaking

The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), the Commercial Drone Alliance, the Consumer Technology Association, and the Small UAV Coalition are urging the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to publish a proposed rule to establish a process to designate airspace above and around fixed-site critical infrastructure facilities.

AUVSI Welcomes Opportunity to Participate in FAA’s BVLOS ARC

With more and more industries relying on unmanned aerial systems (UAS) capabilities for their operations today - and many more expected to in the years ahead - the UAS industry broadly agrees that enabling routine operations beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) is critical for high-value drone uses. However, updates to existing regulatory frameworks will need to be made before the drone industry can fully take advantage of opportunities, such as small package delivery and infrastructure inspections, in a way that is repeatable, scalable, and economically viable.

Why You Can’t Miss the FAA UAS Symposium – Episode III

Are you a drone operator? Does your business revolve around unmanned aerial systems (UAS)? Do you care about the future of drone regulations, both domestically and abroad? Do you fly UAS as a hobby? Do you write about the latest and greatest in the world of drones?   If you answered ‘yes’ to any of those questions, you can’t miss the FAA UAS Symposium scheduled for later this week - Wednesday, June 9 and Thursday, June 10. This first installment of 2021 will occur virtually, so feel free to tune in on the beach, in the mountains, while walking your dog, or sitting at home with coffee in hand.   The agenda includes:

Senator Sasse supports increased investment in DARPA

Since its founding, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has pursued breakthroughs in emerging technologies that have enabled new military capabilities and laid foundations for private-sector investments that extend beyond the battlefield in the process.

Harmful Avigation Easement Bills Defeated In States

As the world's largest nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of unmanned systems and robotics, a core part of AUVSI's mission is to educate lawmakers about how their actions could support or hinder the growth the unmanned systems industry.

Chairman Reed Calls for More UMS

The Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee recently called for an increased focus on the development of unmanned maritime vessels to strengthen our nation’s armed forces, and AUVSI urges fellow lawmakers and national security officials to take note.   Democratic Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed spoke during a virtual Ronald Reagan Institute event on May 11th, during which he emphasized the importance of technologically evolved ships over merely large numbers of traditional vessels.
