Today, Wind River announced that it will supply AgustaWestland with its VxWorks 653 Platform technology for a tilt rotor technology incubator program.
Project Zero is an unmanned, completely electric tilt rotor that is designed to advance the future of rotorcraft, according to the company.
AgustaWestland inquired about using Wind River’s technologies and together they created, tested and ran the new unmanned rotorcraft in 12 months.
“Wind River’s proven solutions for avionics combined with its professional services expertise contributed to the development of Project Zero in record time with an innovative approach by leveraging market-leading technology,” said Dr. James Wang, vice president of research and technology at AgustaWestland, in a press release. “Wind River technology was selected because of its hard real-time, portability, reusability and robustness characteristics, and the company’s strong ecosystem helped us to save tremendous time in the development process.”
Wind River’s VxWorks 653 product is currently used in more than 300 programs and in more than 60 aircraft across the globe.
