Saelig Releases Lightweight Telepresence Robot
By Danielle Lucey
Fairport, New York, company Saelig Co. Inc. has released its Double Telepresence Robot, a self-navigating platform that can send audio and video from remote locations so users can move through an environment from a far-off location.
The company designed the robot to work through an iPad interface for face-to-face interaction with the 47-inch to 59-inch adjustable platform. It can also be operated from any other Apple iOS device or Web browser.
The robot employs a wide-angle conversion lens to allow the user to have a wide field of view while navigating using the iPad’s front-facing camera. The robot, which weighs 14 pounds, conserves power when it’s not on the move through dual retractable kickstands that automatically deploy when it’s motionless. Typically, the robot can last for one day on a full battery charge.
