SeeByte, ASV and the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom have been awarded phase two funding for the Adaptive Autonomous Ocean Sampling Networks program, which uses autonomous maritime vehicles to fight oil spills, map sea beds, track fish and study tides.
The companies want to make it easier for a single operator to supervise large fleets of autonomous maritime systems from the shore. The program will integrate sensor data to allow for adaptive missions that use a variety of vehicles, including autonomous surface vehicles, autonomous underwater vehicles and gliders.
For the next phase, the Neptune software from Scotland’s SeeByte will be integrated onto various autonomous vehicles — including the C-Enduro surface vehicle from U.K.-based ASV — using a common interface and control system. The C-Enduro will carry a multibeam echo sounder and passive acoustic monitoring system.
