General Dynamics and Sentient Technological Partner for Improved Situational Awareness

To increase situational awareness through their products, General Dynamics Mediaware and Sentient Vision Systems have formed a technical partnership, the companies announced.
General Dynamics brings to the table its D-VEX product, a video exploitation system that provides full-motion video for analysis, and Sentient is using its Kestrel land and maritime target-detection software, a real-time automatic detection software that allows one to view difficult-to-see moving targets in electro-optical and infrared video streams for analysis.
The combination of automated detection and intelligent video technology allows users to gain a large quantity of data from the videos retrieved by the sensor technology.
“While working together on the Australian Defence Force’s Shadow 200 Tactical unmanned aerial systems program, it was clear to us that Sentient’s Kestrel software integrates easily and strengthens the end-to-end video-exploitation capabilities of our D-VEX system,” says Dr. Kevin Moore, chief technology officer at General Dynamics Mediaware. “Combining these two technologies creates a powerful tool for detecting, analyzing and reporting moving targets in both the maritime search and rescue and battlefield environments.”
Simon Olsen, the director of business development, strategy and partnership for Sentient, says, “We understand the importance of leveraging technologies that are designed for operations where ease-of-use and low system overhead are vital, saving our customers valuable time and money.”
