Clearpath Robotics has released a new unmanned ground vehicle, the Jackal, aimed at researchers working in open-source robotics.
The system is portable, weatherproof and able to operate in a variety of terrains, the Kitchener, Ontario, Canada-based company says. It’s intended to allow researchers to bring their work to the field more rapidly.
“We designed Jackal for quick and easy application development,” says Julian Ware, the general manager for research at Clearpath Robotics. “Jackal’s standard accessories come fully integrated with documented libraries and programming examples. Everything about the robot is ready to work out of the box.”
Jackal originated from a contract with the U.S. Army Research Labs to create an affordable, portable research system for use outdoors.
