Yesterday, QinetiQ North America announced that its Talon robots will provide explosive ordinance disposal mission support for the Pakistan military.
This new order was facilitated by the U.S. Navy and follows previous orders for EOD support. The new order cost $7.8 million.
“Talon robots are world-class lifesavers that keep personnel, assets and civilians out of harm’s way,” said Andy Rogers, executive vice president and general manager of QinetiQ NA’s Technology Solutions business, in a press release. “Talon helps warfighters identify unseen threats to improve mission security and increase safety.”
There are more than 4,000 Talons in use today, primarily for detecting hazardous mines and other explosive devices. The average Talon fielded in Iraq and Afghanistan gets blown up 13 times.
