SeeByte Releases New ROV Sonar Mosaic Tool
By Danielle Lucey
SeeByte announced this week that it has released a new multibeam imaging sonar mosaic tool for the company’s SeeTrack CoPilot software that can be outfitted on remotely operated vehicles.
SeeTrack CoPilot users can now generate a multibeam imaging sonar forward-look mosaic through an on/off button in the software’s interface. This can quickly generate maps of the environment to improve the situation awareness of the ROV’s pilot.
Dr. Mahesh Menon, from SeeByte’s partner company Soil Machine Dynamics, commended on how the system can be used on SMD’s work-class ROVs.
“Our smart partnership with SeeByte has been great for our customers from the start, particularly with the introduction of SMD’s DVECS-S ROV control system, where CoPilot forms part of its core,” he said. “With DVECS-S, pilots are able to engage autonomous functions on a ROV, such as auto-cruise control and object tracking using multibeam sonar, which are beneficial in subsea operations, for example riser inspection, drill support and construction. We are very excited by the release of SeeByte’s sonar mosaic tool, which will further benefit our customers, enabling them to paint a map of their environment and use that map to navigate more effectively. There is currently no other capability like this in the marketplace.”
