Sonardyne International Ltd. and Bluefin Robotics announced today that they will be working together to combine Sonardyne’s Solstice side scan sonar with a Bluefin-12 autonomous underwater vehicle to use for offshore survey, search and environmental monitoring.

The integrated AUV also allows for swappable payloads and unexploded ordnance survey operations. It comes equipped with swath bathymetry, and the Solstice produces high-quality imagery from a conventional (non-synthetic aperture sonar. It is designed to produce wide swath coverage while consuming 18 watts of power.

“Bluefin Robotics and Sonardyne have a long partnership. We already use products from their acoustic positioning and wireless communications technology ranges, which are installed on some of our other AUV models,” says David Kelly, president and CEO for Bluefin Robotics. “Installing Solstice is part of our latest development program to demonstrate the technology as an integrated option for our customers.”
