FAA Releases UAS Fact Sheet Update for 2023

Last week, the FAA released its Updated Fact Sheet (2023) on State and Local Regulation of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).   In the eight years since the last Fact Sheet from the FAA, many states and localities have introduced drone legislation. While some measures were positive and supportive of industry, others were far-reaching and encroaching on federal authorities.

AUVSI Remarks on Counter-UAS at XELEVATE’S 2023 Airspace Awareness and Protection Conference

On June 8, 2023, AUVSI attended and exhibited at the 2023 Airspace Awareness and Protection Conference, co-hosted by Xelevate and C-UAS Hub in Leesburg, Virginia. The second annual Law-Tech Connect Workshop was co-located at XPONENTIAL 2023, where it connected and informed all involved in uncrewed systems (C-Suite, operators, engineers, attorneys, academics, students, etc.) in a dynamic one-day session of techno-legal content. Topics included global drone regulations, artificial intelligence policy, public-private partnership legal authorities, the law of the air/land/sea, intellectual property, privacy law and more. RTCA Remembers the Contributions of C. Don Bateman, Avionics Pioneer

WASHINGTON, DC – May 25, 2023 – Aviation pioneer and inventor C. Don Bateman passed away this past weekend at the age of 91 in Washington State. Over his career, Mr. Bateman received over 40 U.S and 80 foreign patents on aircraft terrain avoidance systems, automatic aircraft flight control systems, stall warning systems, head-up displays, speed control/auto throttle systems, and weight and balance systems. He spent most of his career as the Chief Engineer for Flight Safety Avionics at Honeywell, retiring on July 21, 2016.
