Executives from Airbus visited the flight test center ATLAS in Spain to assess the potential for collaboration in developing and testing unmanned aerial systems.
ATLAS is the only facility in Europe specifically designed for the research and development of UAS, according to a company press release, and contains a 600-meter runway, technical building, control tower and several hangers.
The Airbus group, which included Airbus Defence and Space Head of Operations Miguel Angel Morell, was privy to a flight demonstration that displayed ATLAS’ infrastructure in action.
Pilots and technicians from the Seville-based Center for Advanced Aerospace Technologies coordinated the flight, which went for 18 kilometers at an altitude of 3,300 feet.
