AUVSI Heartland Chapter Working With State Senate in Illinois
Gov. Rauner of Illinois will soon be creating an “Unmanned Aerial System Oversight Task Force”, with 22 set-aside seats for representatives from different groups for the purpose of providing guidance into the safe operation of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and input and oversight in creating comprehensive laws and rules for the operation and use of UAS technology in Illinois.
The idea of the task force emanated through SB 44 section (b)(6) which was introduced by Sen. Julie Morrison (29th District) The AUVSI Heartland chapter worked through her office and submitted a request to be the designee representing the association as a UAS commercial technical representative.
The Heartland Chapter covers Wisconsin and Illinois, a very active region for the development and use of unmanned systems be they airborne, on land, or in the water. Leading edge firms from both states have been putting autonomous platforms on the market for more than 20 years. The Heartland Chapter brings unmanned system experts together from the private, academic, and government sectors to pursue and advance the industry.
The Heartland chapter is still working towards this end with the Governor’s office and a decision will be reached in the coming month.
