MEDIA ADVISORY: AUVSI to Host Cybersecurity Webinar
 
October 5, 2022, Arlington, Va. – Later this month, the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) will host a webinar on cybersecurity for uncrewed vehicles and robotics. The webinar follows the August launch of a collaboration between AUVSI and Fortress Information Security to develop an enterprise cybersecurity model and a suite of voluntary standards to address cyber risks specific to uncrewed systems and robotics.
 
Webinar topics include:

• How previous work by Fortress Information Security that led to the development of voluntary risk-based standards for the utilities industry will serve as a blueprint for the collaboration with AUVSI.
• The value of consensus and proactive politics among manufacturers and suppliers of uncrewed systems.
• How these systems are relied upon for national defense, public safety, commercial delivery, critical infrastructure inspection, and more.

 
“A cyber-secure foundation built on universal industry standards among industry stakeholders and suppliers will help to ensure the economic and operational potential of uncrewed vehicles is reached,” said Michael Robbins, Executive Vice President, Government & Public Affairs at AUVSI.
 
In September, AUVSI announced a collaboration with the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) to further commercial cyber methodologies to build a shared standard—like the one used to develop the DIU’s Blue UAS “Cleared List.” AUVSI’s effort is designed to expand the number of vetted Uncrewed Aircraft Systems, or UAS, that meet Congressional and federal agency drone security requirements.
 
Recent consumer polling conducted by AUVSI and Fortress Information Security found that a vast majority believe a cyber attack on uncrewed vehicles would be “a big deal” and 69% want industry to share cybersecurity data.
