Boeing acquired 2d3 Sensing, a company that specializes in processing motion imagery from aerial platforms, to be integrated into Boeing’s subsidiary Insitu.

“This supports our efforts to differentiate out platforms and services with integrated information solutions,” says Boeing Defense, Space & Security Vice President Steve Nordlund.

2d3 Sensing is a 40-person company and subsidiary of OMG plc that provides sensing services and software to the U.S. Air Force and other government and commercial customers. Its products can be found on the Insitu ScanEagle and Integrator systems, and the acquisition will allow for further integration of 2d3 Sensing’s video analysis into other Insitu and Boeing platforms.

“Insitu has a long history with 2d3, and by integrating them into the team, we can further leverage the unique capabilities the company offers,” says Insitu President and CEO Ryan Hartman. “The services they provide highlight ways in which computer vision and image processing technologies can be used to enhance and analyze full-motion video data captured and recorded during live missions. We look forward to incorporating such improvements into our unmanned vehicles.”
