Last week, it was announced that AUVSI President and CEO Brian Wynne was reappointed to the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Drone Advisory Committee (DAC) for another two-year term, allowing him to continue lending his experience and leadership to this important public-private advisory group.
Per the FAA website, “the FAA's Drone Advisory Committee (DAC) is a broad-based, long-term Federal advisory committee that provides the FAA with advice on key UAS integration issues by helping to identify challenges and prioritize improvements. The committee helps to create broad support for an overall integration strategy and vision. Membership is comprised of CEO/COO-level executives from a cross-section of stakeholders representing the wide variety of UAS interests, including industry, research and academia, retail, and technology."
Brian has been a member of the DAC for the past two years, and during his tenure he has successfully advocated for the UAS industry by pushing for improvements to the Part 107 waiver process and promoting increased transparency and accountability by the FAA. Brian chaired DAC Task Group #3 on Part 107 waivers, and is currently playing a leading role in DAC Task Group #9 on Low Altitude Remote ID Operations.
“Drones have taken on an incredible array of responsibilities and tasks, especially as we navigate through a global pandemic,” said Wynne. “The work of the DAC has been instrumental in pushing the FAA forward on critical rulemakings and regulations, including Remote ID and Operations Over People. I am honored to have been reappointed to this committee and look forward to continuing to work in partnership with other members of the DAC as we promote policies to ensure the safety of our national airspace. I also welcome the new members who are joining a passionate and experienced group.”
This appointment comes on the heels of Wynne also being reappointed to the FAA’s Management Advisory Committee (MAC), which is a 13-member committee that “advises the FAA's senior management on policy, spending, long-range planning, and regulatory matters.” Wynne was first appointed to the MAC in 2017, and has been appointed to another three-year term.
