At the Euronaval Exhibition and Conference in Paris this week, Insitu announced its next-generation ScanEagle unmanned aerial system, ScanEagle 2.
After 800,00 hours of operational experience with the first generation, the ScanEagle 2 comes with increased payload power and expanded options, more robust navigation, a fully digital video system for better image quality, and the first reciprocating internal combustion propulsion system built specifically for small UAS.
The company has also taken measures to reduce training, hardware and lifecycle costs by increasing commonalities with other systems. The new aircraft will share a launch-and-recovery system with the Integrator UAS and have an open-architecture ground control system.
“ScanEagle 2 will shepherd us into the next two decades as we focus on reliability and affordability and enter the civil/commercial market,” says Ryan Hartman, president and CEO of Insitu.
