IRobot will deliver 20 PackBot 510 robots to the Canadian Department of National Defence under multiyear contracts with an initial value of $9.6 million.
The systems will include iRobot’s CBRN Recce System, an expansion to the 510 PackBot that includes chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear sensors for detecting chemical warfare agents, toxic industrial chemicals, explosives, radiation and other hazards.
“IRobot is honored to be working with the Canadian DND to meet the challenge of keeping personnel safe when responding to CBRN threats,” says Frank Wilson, senior vice president and general manager of iRobot's Defense and Security business unit. “CBRN events occur globally, and each present their own unique challenges."
The robots are expected to be delivered by April 2015.
