Bedford, Massachusetts-based iRobot Corp. has received an order from the U.S. Marine Corps Systems Command for 75 of its Small Unmanned Ground Vehicles, to be delivered by the second quarter of 2016.
The man-portable robot, which is a smaller version of the iRobot PackBot, provides situational awareness for explosive ordnance disposal personnel, among other troops.
"As threats persist globally, iRobot is proud to continue partnering with our defense forces to provide this life-saving technology," says Tom Frost, senior vice president and general manager of iRobot's Defense and Security business unit. "Rugged, lightweight robots like SUGV enable a safer and more effective way to conduct a variety of dangerous missions."
To date, the company has delivered more than 5,000 of its ground military robots worldwide.
