Applanix, a Trimble company, announced a new mapping and positioning system for use on unmanned aircraft called the APX-15 UAV GNSS-Inertial System.
The new system is a super lightweight, Post-it-sized sensor and receiver that will reduce ground control points and sidelap to increase area flown per mission and maximize mapping.
The included post-mission software, POSPac UAV, produces accurate position and orientation georeferencing data for cameras or other sensors, according to a company press release.
The APX-15 UAV tracks all available global navigation satellite signals with 220 channels for post-mission and real-time referencing, guidance, control and precision landings.
“We are offering a cost-effective solution that meets the size, weight, power and cost requirements of small UAS and maintains the Applanix pedigree for quality and performance,” says Director of Intertial Technology and Airborne Products Joe Hutton.
The system will be available worldwide early next year.
