Today, QinetiQ North American announced that its robots were used to help secure Super Bowl XLVIII, held 2 Feb.

New Jersey State Police and the Render Safe Task Force — a blend of state, municipal, county and federal safety agencies — used the company’s Dragon Runner 10, Dragon Runner 20, Talon and Spartacus robots in the area surrounding MetLife Stadium from a week before kickoff up until the end of the football game, which was attended by more than 82,000 people.

The robots varied immensely in size and capability, from the throwable Dragon Runners that come in around 10 pounds; to the Iraq- and Afghanistan-proven Talon improvised explosive device robot; to Spartacus, which comes in at 8,000 pounds.

“Our robots are being used in over three dozen countries today, and thousands of our platforms have been used in Iraq and Afghanistan to defeat tens of thousands of improvised explosive devices,” says Dr. Andy Rogers, executive vice president and general manager of the Technology Solutions division at QinetiQ North America. “We are tremendously proud to support the brave men and women across America and overseas who tireless work to keep our communities and nations safe.”
