Swift Aero granted permission to fly UAS in Class Bravo airspace in and around Las Vegas

Aerial service provider Swift Aero Aerial Systems (Swift Aero) has had its FAA Waiver Part 107.41 approved by the FAA, which will allow the company to fly UAS in key airport traffic areas and controlled airspace, known as Class Bravo airspace, in and around Las Vegas. “We are absolutely thrilled to be the first aerial company to have this very special permission to fly UAS in Class Bravo Airspace in Las Vegas,” says Craig McKay, President, Swift Aero Aerial Systems. “This will open-up many opportunities for businesses already anchored here and those corporations who want to start-up here in Vegas.”

GreenSight Agronomics receives waiver from FAA for BVLOS UAS operations

UAS services and agricultural intelligence provider GreenSight Agronomics has announced that on Dec. 15 of last year, it was granted a waiver from the FAA to operate its UAS beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS). With this waiver, GreenSight, which provides daily monitoring services at top-5 agrochemical company test sites, golf courses, and farms, will be able to operate its UAS remotely from its Boston command center. The waiver still requires a local visual observer, though. GreenSight, which says that it is just the ninth company to obtain a BVLOS waiver from the FAA, will use this waiver to begin testing BVLOS operations at a customer site.

Drone Delivery Canada expanding its testing program to the United States

Drone Delivery Canada (DDC) has announced that it is expanding its commercial testing program to the United States. DDC is bringing its testing program to the Griffiss International Airport UAS Test Site in Rome, New York during Q1 of this year, and the company anticipates that the program will run through the “balance of the year.” “We have very strong interest from multiple commercial customers in the USA that not only want to test our drone delivery platform in Canada, but also in their own Country as well,” says Tony Di Benedetto, CEO.

Warm Springs FAA UAS Test Range to offer UAS pilot training course in January

From Jan. 11 to 15, 2018, Warm Springs FAA UAS Test Range will offer a UAS pilot training course to train the next generation of career-oriented UAS enthusiasts to enter the commercial services market. The training course will consist of four components: Part 107 training to earn FAA certification for safe and legal operations, hands-on flight training to teach the fundamentals of flying a UAS, UAS operational safety training to improve safety and operational performance skills, and a commercial enterprise course to teach UAS enthusiasts how to make money flying UAS.

FAA evaluating prototype UAS Airspace Authorization System

The FAA is evaluating a prototype system that is designed to automatically approve most requests to operate UAS in specific areas of airspace below designated altitudes. The expectation is that this type of system will ultimately provide “near real-time processing of airspace authorization requests” for UAS operations across the United States.
