Textron Fury Missile Successfully Fired from Tactical UAS

Textron Systems Weapon and Sensor Systems, of Textron Inc., announced successful live-fire demonstrations of its new Fury lightweight precision weapon on a Textron Systems Shadow tactical unmanned aircraft system at the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona.

Last month the company was the first to drop a live weapon from the Shadow 200 TUAS, also achieved with the Fury after 15 months of development on the project. This signals a shift toward arming smaller UAS with weapon systems than the Predator or Hunter systems.

The lightweight Fury uses a common interface for use on multiple manned or unmanned aircraft systems and is guided by a GPS-aided inertial navigation system with laser guidance capability that allows it to address a broad target set from static and moving light armored vehicles to small boats and personnel.

“Our team is focused on quickly bringing new and affordable capability to the war fighter,” says Ian Walsh, Weapon and Sensor Systems senior vice president. “Not only is the weapon simple to use, accurate and attractively priced, it’s an ideal compliment to the trusted Shadow platform as well as other UAS or light attack aircraft.”

The Fury will be on display this week at the 2014 Modern Day Marine Expo in Quantico, Virginia, at the Textron Systems booth, equipped on a Shadow aircraft.
