AUVSI stakeholders, including the International Association of Chiefs of Police, which has worked with AUVSI opposing onerous state unmanned aircraft systems legislation, are holding a National Public Safety and Emergency Management Operational UAS Workshop and Technology Demonstration, June 9-11 in Regina, Canada.

The focus of the Technology Demonstration Day would be to showcase both the operational use of UAS and how these systems could potentially leverage the new Canadian Public Safety 700-megahertz broadband network currently being developed in Canada (FirstNet).

Unmanned Systems Canada, the Canadian Interoperability Technology Interest Group (operated by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police), the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance, and the Collaborative Centre for Justice and Safety at the University of Regina are partnering on the workshop to:

1. develop an understanding of the current state of public safety and emergency management UAS use and capabilities in Canada

2. identify the desired future state, categorize potential barriers to change and iterate the case for change

3. develop a first draft of a Canadian Public Safety & Emergency Management UAS Strategy.
