Phoenix Uses UUV to Recover Spanish MOD Helicopter Wreckage

Phoenix International Holdings Inc. completed a search-and-recovery underwater mission for the Spanish Ministry of Defense to find a Super Puma helicopter that crashed into the sea on 19 March off the Canary Islands in 2,365 meters of seawater.

Phoenix utilized the company’s Remora 2 remotely operated underwater vehicle to head to Gran Canaria Island, which was equipped with the motor vessel EDT Ares that was hired by Phoenix and Simrad 1071 scanning sonar.

A hoist line from EDT Ares lifted the wreckage to the surface and onto the back deck of the vessel and was then turned over to Spanish MOD personnel.
