During ASIS 2017, Sharp Electronics' Sharp INTELLOS Automated Unmanned Ground Vehicle (A-UGV) was named “New Product of the Year for Outdoor Perimeter Protection” by Security Today magazine, and the A-UGV also received the “Security Solutions Award for Security Monitoring” by Security Sales & Integration.
These industry honors come a year after the Sharp INTELLOS A-UGV officially launched during ASIS International 2016.
“It is one thing for a manufacturer to claim it can satisfy security and safety needs,” says Mike Kobelin, National Sales Director for the Sharp Robotics Business Division.

Built Robotics developing autonomous excavators for construction sites
A new company called Built Robotics is developing software and sensors that can transform off-the-shelf excavators into machines that autonomously dig precise holes for hours without a break.
Founded by Noah Ready-Campbell, Built Robotics, which is headquartered in San Francisco and recently went public, has been stealthily operating a retrofitted skid steer, using a computer program to direct it and move it around dirt.
Using Built Robotics’ software, a contractor can geofence a project to ensure that the machine doesn’t go rogue. Following that, a contractor can “program in the exact parameters and where to move the dirt.”

Roboteam unveils Transportable Interoperable Ground Robot during AUSA 2017
During AUSA 2017 in Washington, D.C., Roboteam, Inc., which provides tactical ground robotic systems and controllers for defense, law enforcement and public safety missions, unveiled its Transportable Interoperable Ground Robot (TIGR).
Described by Roboteam as the “most advanced, groundbreaking robotic platform ever made available to the modern warfighter,” the TIGR is a two-man carried UGV with a modular design. The modular design allows for add-ons, sensors and future technology integration.
Highly mobile and capable of operating in any terrain, the all-weather UGV is capable of a number of different functionalities that are unachievable for other mid-sized robotic platforms in the “theater of war,” according to Roboteam.

Stratom XR-P demonstrates autonomous loading, unloading from MV-22
Colorado-based Stratom’s new eXpeditionary Robotic-Platform, or XR-P, was recently demonstrated by the U.S. Marine Corps, which used it to autonomously load and unload supplies from an MV-22 Osprey vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.
Stratom has been working on the XR-P for about three years, in response to a Small Business Innovation Research proposal for resupply systems to work with the MV-22.
The main benefit of the XR-P is that it can autonomously drive in and out of the MV-22 while carrying more than 2,400 pounds of supplies, greatly reducing the manpower needed to unload supplies or ammunition from the aircraft. The XR-P can also tow up to 1,800 pounds with a full load.

Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe operates unmanned systems in three domains
During a technology demonstration at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Unmanned Aircraft Systems (MARUAS) Airfield at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in coastal Virginia, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe operated unmanned systems in three domains—air, land, and sea.
The demonstration showcased how unmanned systems are being used by scientists to study the effects of major storms and sea-level rise on barrier-island dynamics, in an effort to form policies for coastal resilience.

Northrop Grumman to provide in-service support for CUTLASS EOD remotely controlled vehicle
After being awarded a 24-month contract from the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) Special Projects Search and Counter Measures team, Northrop Grumman will provide “in-service support” of the CUTLASS Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) remotely controlled vehicle.
The work will be an extension of the existing in-service support contract for CUTLASS, and will be conducted at Northrop Grumman’s Coventry facility, which is where Northrop Grumman provides life cycle support for all of its EOD unmanned ground systems.

Northrop Grumman's Remotec Inc. unveils Nomad UGV
Northrop Grumman Corporation’s subsidiary Remotec Inc. is unveiling a new UGV called Nomad, which is the newest member of Northrop Grumman’s Andros line of UGVs, and is Interoperability Profile (IOP)-compliant.
Designed using a “proven concurrent engineering process,” Nomad is similar to other systems in the Northrop Grumman Andros fleet, as it incorporates decades’ worth of feedback collected while working with first responder and military customers, in an effort to offer advanced technology, ease of use and reliability.

PSA Security Network named first authorized distributor of the Sharp INTELLOS A-UGV
Sharp Robotics Business Development (SRBD), which is a division of Sharp Electronics Corporation (SEC), has announced the appointment of PSA Security Network as the first authorized distributor of the Sharp INTELLOS Automated Unmanned Ground Vehicle (A-UGV).
PSA Security Network is a division of PSA, which is the “world's largest systems integrator cooperative made up of the most progressive security and audio-visual systems integrators in North America.”

Milrem Robotics developing new robotic systems for defense applications
In an effort to give soldiers new robotic systems for defense applications, Milrem Robotics, which is a provider of defense technologies, will expand the capabilities of its THeMIS UGV.
One of Milrem Robotics’ goals is to enhance the situational awareness of warfighters, so several systems are being developed, including the TITAN SENTRY concept, which was developed in collaboration with QinetiQ.
