AUVSI New England UAS and AAM Summit: Industry Implications for Evolving Regulations

Last week, Max Rosen from AUVSI Headquarters attended AUVSI New England’s UAS and AAM Summit 2023. AUVSI New England is an active AUVSI Chapter that includes individuals and member companies all across the New England region.   Max participated in a panel discussion moderated by Jeffrey Vincent, Executive Director of the UAS Integration Office and a key FAA champion on UAS and AAM issues. He also had the opportunity to engage with several state-level aviation and aeronautics officials who took a keen interest in AUVSI’s Drone Prepared campaign. Below is his recap of top takeaways from the event: 

AUVSI Attends NASAO 2023 Annual Convention and Tradeshow

Last week, AUVSI staff attended the National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO) 2023 Annual Convention and Tradeshow in Rogers, Arkansas.  NASAO is “dedicated to representing the interests of the states and the public before policymakers at the federal level,” and is the “only organization deeply invested in representing the public interest in all facets of aviation and airports.”

AUVSI Submits AAM Regulatory Comments

The world is entering an exciting new era of aviation, but for the benefits of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) to be realized, U.S. companies need more support and regulatory clarity.   The safe integration of AAM into the airspace will increase U.S. global competitiveness by supporting domestic workforce growth and technology innovation and manufacturing.   

AAM: Community Engagement

The AAM Summit featured a breakout workshop on Community Engagement, fostering a discussion on the need to bring voices to the table in a meaningful way and ways to identify collaborative opportunities. Moderated by Raquel Girvin, FAA’s Western-Pacific Regional Administrator, the panel featured Erik Amend, Regional Administrator, FAA’s Great Lakes Region; Yolanka Wulff, Community Air Mobility Initiative; Mike Romanowski, Archer Aviation; and Nancy Mendonca, NASA’s AAM Mission Integration Manager (Acting).

AAM: Entry into Service

The final day of the AAM Summit, co-hosted by FAA and AUVSI, began with a morning plenary session featuring Jessica Sypniewski, Deputy Assistant Administrator of FAA’s NextGen (ANG-2) and Dr. Ezinne Uzo-Okoro, Assistant Director for Spacy Policy at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
